Got it - the car was hot-rodded in the 90's including the interior, then updated in 2004 minus any updates to the interior. I have the seat temporarily bolted in place! It's fully forward and I need to do some work on the tracks (lube and loosen) when I pull it back out. Also found that the 90's 'custom' door cards - or at least the inside door handles need to come off for the doors to close. Tight fit!

Ha! Problem solved indeed! The caged nuts currently under your car are NOT factory. The holes you had circled within your photo are the factory holes. Originally there were caged nuts at those locations. I have attached a photo of what you should have. Although a convertible, the seat mount braces are identical to your car. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

Quick follow up. There appear to be several mounting options/holes underneath. The pic is on the passenger side underneath. The captive nuts are what were used for the bucket seats (I haven't pulled up the carpet yet). Outlined holes are what measure correctly and will work for my bench seat!

Thanks for the confirmation. When I removed the "hot rod" bucket seats, I remember seeing what looked like original captive nuts underneath for the track. I'll go under again and see if there are other holes I missed...

Those tracks look correct to me. They are the later track style.

What you have (tracks) are the second of two designs utilized in 1940. The second design was simpler and most likely more economical to produce. The fit was the same as the earlier design. I have attached a photo that depicts both designs. Might you post more photos of the seat you have?

Thanks all. I am looking to make this work in my 40 Tudor. The feet (and track?) are different on my seat. While the tag hog-ringed to the seat looks original, a PO may have changed the tracks. This is the seat/track I am working with:
