I am looking for specs on the 46-48 59A style flat head. I need to find out what the tolerances on the crankshaft for the Main and Rod Bearing Clearances. It has been sitting for a long time and wanted to get them checked to decide if I need to go a different route with the car. (It came in a 40 Ford Deluxe) Also, to add to the question I would like to know if anyone has the specs for the Rod and Main nut torques to go along with that? Or is there a book out there or in the online store that has all that information to glean from? Thank you all in Advance! Regards, Tim

As long as we work on our projects a little every day, they will eventually be completed.

Aren't the rod bearings in a 59A floating type, where the bearing sh*ll can turn in the rod as well as on the crank journal? Here s a link to a post on the H.A.M.B about floating rod bearings. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/early-ford-flathead-v-8s-with-floating-rod-bearings.1256429/

That is correct, the rod bearings in this engine are of the full floating type which are free to rotate on the rod journal and within the big ends of the rods. The way to adjust them to be free within the rods and over the journals involves use of a rubber hammer and a flat wooden board.

Soooo....if I understand you guys correctly . Having the Main bearing clearance at. 000-.003 means there is no clearance basically, because there is "floating type bearing" inside these journals ? After reading the jalopy journal forum on floating bearings I kinda felt like the guy who got his legs cut off and everyone called him shorty! ??

The main bearings are not the fully floating type. They are conventional fixed bearing inserts. Only the rod bearings are fully floating.
