The original Mainshaft bearing (7065) and the Main Drive Gear bearing 70250 seem to be in very good condition. Is it wise to replace them anyway. I don't have much trust in the new manufacturing stuff. Is Timken reliable? Thanks

Sure is, while you have it apart, there are excellent quality available as long as you use a well known brand.SKF, KOYO ,NTN or the like. Lawrie

Timken is no longer just USA made so you might want to check before putting your money down.

Regarding Timken Bearings: The company is now in Canada. Some time back I bought a wheel bearing from Rock Auto. When receiving the bearing I saw Timken's name stamped on it. I then discovered Timken's direct web sales site. No surprise, RockAuto had jacked up Timken's price almost 100%.. RockAuto had no sympathy for me. Buyer beware. Bearings can have hidden wear or damage that's not immediately visible. The cost of replacing bearings is relatively low compared to the labor involved in reopening the transmission if a bearing fails later. However, your concern about the quality of new manufactured parts is valid. The reliability of replacement parts can vary. Timken is considered a reputable brand for bearings. They are known for producing high-quality Precision spindle bearings and are widely used in the automotive industry. TBSBearings will be another choice if you want cheap bearings.
