Does anyone know where I can find oil cleanout plugs for my 51 Mercury crankshaft? Joblot carries them for the Ford but not Mercury. Thanks, Bob

you would think they would be the same. but also you can try other FORD Venders or a auto machine shop that regrinds shafts.should have them, hope this helps 37 RAGTOPMAN an KEEP ON TRUCKIN,,,,,!!!

At our shop, we open all old crankshafts to clean the oil passages. Most are nearly blocked. We then thread the holes and install new Allen head plugs, which are available from full line parts places. We go an extra step and put the crank on our balancer. You are probably ahead to take the crank to a good shop that can at least jet spray the thing, and install sealed plugs. This message was edited by supereal on 8-31-10 @ 6:51 AM

The plugs are not the same as the Ford. The clean out holes are larger in the Mercury crank. I would strongly recommend that you follow Supereal's advice, It may save you some agony later. Tom

Be sure to fully flush any cuttings produced by the drilling and threading procedure, or bearing damage is sure to result. Use a good sealer on the plugs, as well.
