I just finished restoring a 41 Mercury generator. There are some differences from the 40 and 42 generators. The front mounting bracket on the 40 and 41 are the same O1A. The 42 changed due to the change in the fan mounting. The 40 only had two wire studs. The 41 and 42 had 3 wire studs. The 41 field ground stud just grounded to the case and the ground on the field coil had a clip on it that contacted the case. On the 42 and later the field ground wire was soldered to the ground stud. The early 40 pulley was 3.12" diameter but late 40 thru 42 was a 3" diameter O1A-B. Suttle changs.
