Hey Mike, the V-8 clib book states that the speedometer cable on a 40 Ford is covered in a black rubber sleeve except for 8" under the dash. does anyone sell a cable like this or how do you do your cables? Mine does not have any rubber on it. thanks Ronnie

ALL 1940 Ford passenger cars had the speedometer cable sleeved in rubber. If I recall correctly, I read somewhere (perhaps the old book) that only radio equipped cars had a wrapped cable. I remove the end of the cable housing nearest the speedometer and install a 1/4" (inside diameter) vacuum hose over the cable (housing). It requires plenty of lubrication to do so, but it works.
