I just picked up a 1948 super deluxe inline L6. Thinking about doing an engine swap to a 302 or 350 small block. Im thinking that I have enough clearance to do so. If not what would yalls suggestions be and what about trans

Yes, you should have plenty of room to swap a Ford 302 or 351 W into a 1948 Ford. As for what transmission to use, you have to first decide if you want a manual or an automatic transmission. If a manual is your choice, you will have to decide if you want a 3-speed, 4-speed or 5-speed. Will you be going with an open driveline to give you more flexibility with transmission choice or do you want to stick with the original closed driveline torque tube design. If you want to go with an automatic transmission, a couple of good choices for convenience of packaging would be either the Ford C4 or AOD. The AOD will provide you with a fourth overdrive gear to make highway driving less stressful and improve fuel economy.
