Looking for information on a 46-48 flathead that came in a 40 Ford Deluxe partially restored. I have found out it has been rebuilt definitely over 30 yrs, but it didn't come with oil filter. There is a female fitting at right side of dipstick and top of back right of engine by oil sending unit? My question is did they come with a filter or will they run without filter or should I get an aftermarket flow thru filter. Concerned member. Regards, Tim

The partial flow oil filter became standard equipment on the Flathead Ford V-8 in 1946. They were available as an option in 1940.
